Just gives you the option is all. 44mm driveshafts drive differently for sure. In the past on other cars I've driven, shorter driveshafts give more initial grip. The car feels more reactive overall, but doesn't roll quite as much. Longer ones make the car really really nice and smooth, and rolls a tiny bit more.

As for the 46mm DCJs and 46mm steel driveshafts, I'm pretty sure they are still coming out. They were listed along with the pistons before when Hiro posted a while ago. If you can't wait for the HB steel 46mm driveshafts, Exotek makes a great alternative that is available right now.
