What could cause this kind of meltdown to happen to my battery?

Im running the 3800kv cc motor, RX8

the batteries are hobby people 35c lipos

Could this be from an insufficient c rated battery? Connectors? I just put the rx8 in and never saw anything like this from my MMP. It has to either be the new bullet connectors or the esc is drawing too much power im guessing.
