I would use thin CF or use the 11mm of chassis you cut off to brace. Take a dremel to sand and lightly rough up the area to glue so it has some "bite" to hold on to.

I think this guy has the cleanest and best modified chassis on here. He was able to eliminate the second battery post and give more surface area to glue.
