It has to do with the layout of the gearbox.

Losi uses two different gear cases. Durango is using one case. Just protecting themselves from someone coping their layout. So all other R/C companies will have to develop cars with the 2 gear case configuration in future. Basically you cant patent a single 3 or 4 gear case, its to common. Durango can patent the DEX210 gear case cause of the layout and a first in R/C.
This is similar to Losi patent the Hydra-drive.
