The concern is not the speed of the electrons, it is that those phases will lose some voltage due to resistance in the extra wire length. If the motor gets imbalanced power, it won't run as efficiently.
But based on the pic I doubt there's anything to worry about.
As for the slipper pads, mine seems fine so far with the 1410 motor. I just swapped the HD pad in on the rear only. I did think the design looked lacking though considering the power to the rear wheels on these. I figure if the front and rear pads are the same the front will never ever slip... it would wheel spin before slipping.
In fact to balance it out I would run an even thinner pad up front if they had one (or cut the center out more?)
I bet there's some better materials for the job, but then you have to worry about wear on the slipper plates.
