its not really if they are needed. its more of a personal choice. Alot of guys have done it. I did it and love it. I'm sure the stockers are fine but I like not ever having to open up my shocks. The D8's are great. Almost no maintenance on these things and I have been bashing hard on them for over 7 months. I had them on my slash 4x4 and threw them on the "heavyweight lover" as soon as I got it. Haven't looked back.
