Thought the same thing when I installed mine, but that's because the ae diff is tight on the bearings and I didn't feel the slop. When I pushed the diff side to side it moved quite a bit. Had to use some shims to tighten it up. Also gear mesh was a little tight but broke in after a pack and is nice and smooth.

I installed my B4.1 gear diff in the spare 22 transmission. Mine fit fine, no shims required. The gear diff does have a slight high spot, but should wear in fine after a couple packs.
