Thanks for the reply. Turns out, adding fresh alkalines improved the problem substantially. I didn't realize they had run down so quickly, so yes, I am definitely ready to buy a receiver pack! I am using a Futaba S9650 Digital Mini Servo for steering and a standard S-148 for the throttle. Right now there are 4 AAA alkalines powering things...and yes, space is a gigantic concern...but I'm not even totally sure how to figure out the voltage requirements! There are so many packs to choose from. My charger can handle whatever it is, but of course I'd like to save as much $$ as possible. Any specific pack recommendations?

Yeah, I kinda doubt AAA alkalines are up to running a couple of servos, especially if they are high performance servos. A glitch buster/stutter stopper should help, but may not be enough. Cheap enough to try though.
Safest option is a NiMH receiver pack. To run Lipo (unregulated anyway) need to confirm your servos and the receiver can handle the higher voltage. What model servos? A LiFe pack is an in between option. I suspect available space will drive the actual pack selection, I’m guessing there is not much room to work with on a nitro 1/12 scale.
