Come to think of it. We can always flip the motor to the same side as the servo and mount a stick battery tray to the opposing side. that way we can avoid saddle packs altogether
I see no reason to avoid saddle packs.... wouldn't your method result in the battery pack being quite far out to avoid hitting the spur gear?
