my only guess would be that your gear mesh wouldn't be set properly. I'm not saying that it couldn't be something else, but slipper pads and slipper plates wouldn't "bind" anything as they aren't actually the gear. check that first, then go from there. Also, make sure the slipper pads are sitting on the spur gear correctly.
I installed them with the pinion disengaged. I reinstalled it 3 times with the same result. After installing lock nut on the spring, the top shaft does not spin freely.
I'm confused! I'll keep messing with it.
