The key to choosing a Lipo battery pack is getting one that has the highest C rating and capacity you can afford. Not only will the car be faster, but the battery will be under less stress with a really good pack meaning it will last a long time.
Also I recommend not choosing the really light Lipos that look a little like the old stick packs we used to use as these are really light weight making balancing of the car a problem and also are not as powerful probably due to how they have been made to be the same size as the old stick packs.
For me the IP5600 50C and IP6200 60C are awesome for any application.

I've experienced the same thing.
I have done back to back testing with a T3'11 running boosted 17.5 equipped with a 3400 25c orion pack and then my thunder power 50/100c 5200mah pack. With the 3400 25c, the car was much slower everywhere on the track and after a 5 min heat motor temps were above 180. During the next qualifier, I swapped in my TP 5200 50/100c and not only was the car MUCH FASTER, motor temps were much lower as well. In the 140 range.
The only swap was the battery and there was 0 binding on the car.
