The gauss is the magnetic strength of the rotor, you can use a piece of equipment to see how much magnetic strength it has.
I run a Black Diamond speedo which doesn't have turbo etc, so I need high torque rotors.
If you have a speedo with turbo etc. it isn't as important as you can make the motor rev using it's settings.
