The more I think about it, if your loop is that old it could be bad. Not from age just abuse from getting moved around. We used another guys loop at our backyard track and it had very high line noise. We actually just made a new loop with some wire, just the loop part connecting it to the little spliter box, can't remember what they call it. Nothing fancy and it works great. Cheap and easy to try and fix your problem.
