Well I disagree with you, more Silicon is better ( but can't tel you what is reasonble limit). About weakness of the piston-yes in many cases it is getting weak after Si content is more then 24%, but again there is way and recepies to make Si content 27% and still keep it strong enough to don't brake or explode.
I would love to have 32 % but at this point i just have 27%
We have Al alloy with 32% Si, but it has other properties which doesn't suit to our needs, so for now we stay with 27%
