Don't send him down yet another road. It's the motor. The motor you have isn't a good orion, it's an old sealed can that you have already cracked open, glued with epoxy and was probably designed for on road, if anything.

would suggest a tacon in this case, something of a lower kv rating. Something around 3000kv or so. Also, check your gear mesh, make sure there is an ever so slight amount of play between the spur and pinon. Too tight and it will overheat anything.
