Not a bad idea.
I mean before we had a place with a laundry tub I washed the cars in the bath tub. The woman wasn't pleased.

Not nutty, just lazy
The hose is not as harmful as you think. As long as you don't let the water sit there. My cleaning is always immediately followed up with a maintenance routine. It's always nicer to work on a clean car as opposed to dirt falling all over the work area.
