Buy reputable brands, these guys know their engineering and material science. Pick up a good used bargain, but even then don't expect anything great below 4 or $500 RTR. Even then, forget the rental idea...

If it were me...
I wouldn't be renting out nitro powered cars.
I would set up electrics for renting to keep the replacement costs down.
Even set up a beginner class just for the renters to get a taste for racing and get them hooked.
It just might make the difference between a guy who would like to own an rc to play, or a guy who just has to buy an rc to race.
