It probably doesn't make much of a difference on an off road car like these, but having 50/50 cross weights helps ensure that the car turns left equally as well as it turns right. You probably don't want 50/50 weight distribution front/rear, but 50/50 left/right would be nice, but not essential, I wouldn't think.

I will chime in on the balancing of the car and tires. Ive been racing offroad for a while now and never balanced my car for perfect weight distribution front to back and side to side. There are so many variables in off-road racing that can completely negate having a balanced car that IMHO i dont think its worth the effort or cost of the scales. My car jumps perfectly flat and straight and if someone elses car doesnt i think its more a result of driving style and/or how they approach and launch off the jump. Onroad racing is another beast entirely and i think a balanced car is a must since an unbalanced track is removed as a variable. Now balancing tires is another story. I think there are huge benefits to be had here as others have already stated. Less abuse and wear on the drivetrain, suspension, bearings, etc. A smoother ride should also make it easier to drive faster, harder into and out of the turns.
