Do yourself a favour, and purchase some LIQUID FLUX. Flux allows the solder to better adhere to the metal you're soldering. Liquid flux is awesome, because it get's "into" all the wires we use in R/C.
It will make you much better at soldering than if you didn't use it. You can get it at Home Depot in the plumbing section. Apply it with a Q-tip.
