You're correct, the manual does say to remove it through the front. This is a revised method to protect the sensor board better. We will make a running change to the manual. Be careful not to damage the protective rubber gasket when removing and installing the sensor unit.

One method I like to use is remove both the front cap and plastic timing cap. I leave the sensor board in place and gently insert the rotor through the front of the motor. Then I site through the rear bearing and use a .050" wrench to align the shaft without damaging the board. Our rotor shafts are CNC machined with a small hole in both ends; they can really assist with bearing alignment.
