I usually start with the adjustment screws two turns out from fully closed.
1.Warm up the engine,
2. Accelerate slowly with the throttle 1/4 to 1/3 open, hold it there and let the engine speed up the car. It is easier to hear the transmission shift and the engine exhaust note change.
3. If you don't hear the transmission shift, bring the car in to your pit area and open each transmission clutch adjustment screw 1/2 turn, go back to step 2.
4. Once you hear the transmission shift to second gear, make your adjustments in smaller increments, like 1/8 to 1/4 turn.
If you don't have the time to try this method, try 5 turns out from closed. But remember it is more difficult to hear the shift point initially, if your are applying full throttle.
+1 on that, go slow on the throttle. Even do this: Make the centax spring softer for testing, so the engine starts earlier in first.
