Lipo Problem
Hi Folks,
I have a pair of 2S1P hard case lipo's to run in my new Nexx 8 (saddle pack configuration). The batteries are new and were only fully charged once before being used in the car for a few minutes for basic tuning at the track. I was doing some jumps and cased a double. It wasn't that hard of a landing, nothing close to a "crash", but my pinion gear did come loose so I decided to pack it in and go over the car to check for loose screws, etc. I noticed the balance wire on one of the batteries was damaged by the drive shaft (cladding pulled back but wire still intact).
Next day I went to top them off the battery with the balance plug problem gave me an error on the charger:
"BATTERY VOL ERR CELL CONNECT"
I get the same error using a different charger, cables, etc. If I probe the balance connector with a multimeter I usually get a few millivolts, but if I wiggle the connector sometimes it jumps up to 2v. The charger thinks 1 cell is measuring at 7.4v but the other is 0v.
On this brand the discharge and balance plug can be disconnected from the battery. So I was able to swap out every external wire and the problem remains the same and appears to be "inside" the battery, or at least the hardcase.
So I "think" there is a problem with the balance connector wire inside the battery pack. Perhaps the driveshaft pulling on the wire/plug broke a connection inside the hard pack. If that is the case, would it make sense to open up the hardcase and attempt a repair?
Anybody have any better ideas or things I might check? (I'm waiting to hear about possible warranty coverage but haven't been able to get a reply yet from the online retailer I purchased these from).
Rgds,
Joe
