I ran into this when building my TC5 diffs the first time. What I did was grab my 4mm ball hex driver and use the end of that to press on the t-nut, then pressed hard on the other side with the normal 2mm hex driver, and I was able to get the screw to start threading into the nut.

I think a 3mm ball driver would also work, but I didn't try it.
