GO is GO and also makes MM MG66 and parts for the Precirotate and they are nice engines. Alpha is Alpha and they also make Dynamite XPE and Argus among some other. Alpha has different internals and carb and performance characteristics than GO so you really can't say they would be even close. If engine has same bore and stroke and same length rod it does not make it same engine.
I think what they mean is that some of the Alpha components are outsourced from the GO factory. It's not a GO engine, but some of it is made at GO (as are a lot of parts for many Taiwanese engines).
The Alpha was originally based on the Gen 5 GO 5 Port design though, as the guy who started Alpha was one of the chief designers at GO before he left to start up his own company.
But your quite right - after some morphing over the last couple of years, Alpha is now distinctly Aplha, and GO is distinctly GO, no question of that.
All the Taiwanese motors perform really well, so if anybody should be upset on here it's the guys who are still paying mega dollars for their European mills, then getting their arses kicked by the cheaper Taiwanese motors

I believe world wide sales are swinging strongly towards the way of the cheaper, powerful and reliable Taiwanese options.
