The Tamiya servo savers do not fit the splines on the Hitec servos and that's likely why you experienced steering issues.
i never used a hitec servo. i am currently using a bluebird low profile high speed servo.
i think it broke when i flip the car 5 times after hitting a barrier. hehehe
