When the motors were originally released the boosted SCs had not hit the market. So yes 2 dot was the spec. After the timing increase came about LRP changed production to 4 dot in order to protect the motors from excessive timing. Obviously the manual has not been updated.
For the insert to be in the correct position you need to be able to see the markings from out side of the motor.
