you should never lock down the servo saver to the point where it doesn't give. That kills servos. The grommets give a little, but the small amount makes a huge difference in cushioning the servo.

Servo saver springs do wear out, along with the entire bellcrank assembly. If you find that you need to lock down the servo saver to get sufficient steering, you should consider replacing the assembly. In addition, setup changes are prob worth investigating.
