Dude, nobody is forcing you to buy 4-5 motors a time. That's your own deal. Most people I know don't do that. For the few guys around are track that do, more power to them.
You can advance the timing in a 12T 550 by jamming a screwdriver in and twisting the end bell a certain way. That is not legal, so why would this be any different? If it's just proper break in and prepping, why can't you just do this yourself?
You can do it yourself. The only difference between someone buying a RED Dot and doing it themselves is cost.
You can buy a dyno, try different lubes, com drops etc.. and find the right combo to get a better motor. Anything that's done to a red dot you have access to, so how is it cheating?
It's a stock motor.
So if I take a box stock motor and break it in in water is that cheating too.
Oh wait, see someone in the pits lubing the bushing, that must be cheating also. I don't remember my box having lube in it.
Did you remove the crappy plugs and solder the wires directly to the motor? Cheater.
