DO NOT go with Nimh. Even the "good" ones don't hold their voltage as well as Lipos and the ripple current can fry your speedo.
I've been running mine on Nimh for along time without problems. I just ordered a couple sets of matched race nimh packs. We race in the winter here and have had lots lipos go bad from the cold so we use Nimh alot. Haven't heard about frying the speedo from ripple current but I do remember seeing Castle say not to use Nimh. Funny because an E-revo comes with Nimh packs in the box. Haven't had problem yet though. I love driving the E-revo.
