we get monsoons in august. sometimes really bad ones that cause flooding and road closures and the tracks get washed out for a few days. The rest of the entire year it rains maybe 5 times. This is the desert you know, not much rain at all. If you move to the Valley area you will be 2 hours from 11 Off road race tracks including "the Nitro Pit" us AZ RC racers are truly blessed to have so many tracks all within such a short driving distance. I moved here from New York after 9/11 and I can tell you I would not want to be anyplace else. The Phoenix valley area is a 3 hour drive to Vegas, 3 hours to the beach in Mexico, 3 hours to the snow covered mountains in Flagstaff and 4 hours to the Grand Canyon. The suburbs here are quite, peaceful, safe, and very inexpensive to live compared to LA or NY. 9 months of the year the weather is perfect ( summer really sucks but we still race)
Since we are talking about rain I will tell you something funny. AZ has a law called "the stupid Motorist Law" This law was put into effect because of the August Monsoons and the flooding and road closures. The roads that are likely to flood have signs that warn people that if the road is flooded " DO NOT ENTER" people are actually stupid enough to drive into these flooded roads anyway in hopes that they can make it through. What usually happens is the car gets stuck and sometimes it will even wash the car away like a raging river when the water is flowing really strong. Anyway the law states that if you are stupid enough to enter one of these roads that say do not enter when flooded and you get washed away and need emergency rescue the state will send you a bill for rescuing your stupid ass and you have to pay it. Last summer some guy got a bill for $10,000 because he needed to be rescued via air-lift..needless to say, he fought the law, and the law won
