You should never have to full replace it. Nothing except the clutch shoe and thrust bearing should wear if it is tuned and maintained properly. Things I would check:

1. Clutch shoe should not be glazed or overly worn looking. If so replace.
2. Thrust bearing should be smooth and balls should roll freely. If unsure you can replace.
3. Clutchbell bearings should be clean and roll freely. If they are binding or too dirty replace.

The remainder of the parts should last almost forever.
