I'm not sure what a true rally car is in the R/C world. I also don't know what true rally racing is in the R/C world. I do know that if it's a bunch of grown men running after their cars through "stages," I want nothing to do with it. I've seen the videos. It's the most ridiculous thing I've seen.
However, if it's cars like this on a track with some elevation changes, a little bit of air time and tires that allow a little drift action, you can count me in.
