In my opinion the standard arrangement works perfectly well for setting the diff, I see no reason to change.

I use all 6 to get the tension I desire, and with the plates all the same way it takes up much less space.
I found with 5 plates and 1.5mm under the diff screw head I was able to run the 46mm driveshafts reliably with clearance for the blades, 44.5 on there at the mo but now my set up is a little wider than before I might revert to the 46mm
