A sleeve puller sounds great. Won't need it often, but when you do, it would be the safest way....
why would you put pliers on your crank?...and on the threads of all places

....just keep your flywheel on and use a glow plug wrench on the flywheel nut to turn the crank! and then anything plastic that will fit inside the exhaust port!
