i always wash my engine parts and engine cases in my ultrasonic cleaner with a 50/50 mix of simple green and deionized water or distilled water.
remove that crap off the top and inside the piston otherwise it will come loose and redeposit inside the engine and through the bearings and could even foul out the glowplug,
engines should be clean inside as they are outside
