Default A few questions about LiPo's

Hey everyone, I'm a long time on again/off again RC veteran (20+ years) just getting back in the swing of things. The last time I did anything with RC, NiMH batteries were still what everyone was using, so I don't know much about LiPo's and have a few questions. Thanks in advance for chiming in!

1. I see the term "2S" or "3S", etc. to describe LiPo packs. Does "S" stand for secondary cell? So a 2S pack is made of two cells? Are there standard sizes for these cells, like the equivalent of sub-c cells for NiCd and NiMH?

2. How are LiPo's supposed to be maintained? Discharge them completely before charging or not? How many cycles can they handle in a given time period (i.e. one day at the track)??

On a side note, any of you old school guys remember the Sanyo 1700 SCE NiCd cells? If you really wanted to take care of those, you were only supposed to cycle them once a week! Man, how things have changed (for the better)!
