Belt clipping is used by Losi team drivers because they're using a different internal ratio that needs cutting every other tooth in order not to catch. It's been take by other drivers because they thought it was to have afreer drive train.

half of the 415 guys already clipped their belts.. including me
thats $14 down the drain if it doesnt work as planned.
