No, if it doesn't have TRF in the name, then it won't be considered a comp. car.
You CAN race lower-spec Tamiyas, but don't kid yourself into thinking they'll be able to run with higher-spec cars (Xevo vs M03/5 for example).
Anyway, back to regular programming....
Motor in the middle, cells down the chassis? Sounds like a scaled up Tamiya Tam-Tech Gear chassis?
