Not sure why it couldn't be a competition car. While I have no experience with a M-04, I know that people love to race them on the road courses.
I also think that drifting is more of a 4wd thing.
Anyway, it sounds like great fun and I know I'll not be able to resist trying to campaign one in our mini class. I think this opens the door for Tamiya to make several new bodies of RWD cars. Being an old guy, I have a hard time getting excited about FWD bodies like the Yaris and Civic. Give me a BMW 2002 or Shelby Daytona. Heck, this could be a whole new segment of VTA if it was done right. One can only hope.
