Make sure you don't let the shaft rebound any when screwing the bleeder plug back in. Also when filling the shock, fill the shock cap up with oil as well and flip it on the shock and screw it down quickly before it drains too much.

Usually when filling and bleeding shocks there's a LOT of extra oil spilling out of the cap and bleeder during the build. It's not a clean process, paper towels are your friend.
