There are other options. You could use a boost module (TQ or Novak) which connects to the main battery +, or you could use a small 5-cell NiMh receiver pack.
Some say the boost module has a tendency to cause a bit of steering loss at the end of an 8-minute run although I've never noticed it. I'm using using a receiver pack to help get the car up to legal weight.
