What starter box are you using? I've got the blue top Ofna....the one that you can almost start a small block Chevy with, and I had a little difficulty when I was first starting my motor.

You're likely just getting the top of the head to 200 deg., not fully saturating everything to get it to expand. Try a lower heat setting, but leave it on the motor longer. Once everything expands, it'll be easier to start.

Like I said though, look at Competition Heat. I haven't used my heat gun once since I bought my heater from Eric...good product.
