In my 20+ years of racing..Not one hobby shop has attemted to help anyone..Only to help empty their pockets...
And let alone "advice"?
they will give advise...what they can sell, with the greatest mark-up's.

Never have i seen/ heard of a shop helping..
I remmember racing at a certain shops track..they would all rub their hands and smile every time a loud "Smash" was heard..more money for em..
That track is a has been....
So..You tell me what shop has helped a newbie when he is having problems?
Its usually some one like me who feels sorry for the person...Not the local hobby shops as they see the newbies as "fresh meat"....
So..To the local hobby shops...bring your prices down, have a smile on your face when im shopping and Help the newbies...If that happens, then maybee, i said maybee we as racers/ hobbiests will support our local..Until then..all my hard earned cash will go overseas.....as i work for me...not him...

I started in this hobby 5months back. Now i had never raced before and went a hobby shop in Hunter St Newcastle as i knew one of the guys there from model trains. I had no idea as to what was racing at Maitland but they helped me out immensely. I found out one of the staff actually races at Maitland and up to now have not had any problems when a newbi like myself walks in there with a problem. I can walk in there and ask what would seem to you experts a silly question but i am given the answer without anyone sniggling and laughing at me. The store does look after us as members as well and that does help. BTW i am no way employed or have anything else to do with this store other than being a customer.
