I think you'll find that everyone has their own way of mounting electronics. Some use Shoe Goo, some use double sided servo tape, some use velcro, some use zip ties and some use various combinations.

Shoe Goo and/or Silicone sealant are good for sealing out water from your electronics to make it more water resistant. I don't see why you'd need to use it for mounting electronics though.
