Don't even mention rc cars in your bags, I never have. Just say you have breakable models if you put it through fragile. If not through fragile don't even mention anything at all, they won't ask you.
I second this. after 20+ trips on planes I have never had an issue, the less said the better.
lipo, tools and anything else always goes through without a problem as long as its not flammable.
