I have it in a team academy sbv2 4wd. with the undertray and the tight fitting body, there is not a lot of airflow. I woud rather have it and not need it than not have it and thermal my esc. I also am going to run it with a heatsink on the motor. my temps have been 150-160 on the motor w/ no heatsink after 5-6 minutes of high speed passes in a parking lot and 145 on the esc. according to castle those temps are safe but if i can reduce it a little i can bump up one tooth on the pinion and pick up a little more umphf.
i might see if I can use some mechanics wire or fishing wire leader material to get one on there. i'd rather be safe than sorry.

I have a academy SB myself and had to cut some holes in the bod "not to my liking" so things would fit, and yes those bods dont leave ya much room!!looks like your only option would be to do whatever it takes...and BTW dont let anyone fool ya those are still great cars
