Default ETS 4 in Poland

Just got back from the ETS race in Poland. We brought 2 of the updated controllers to the race, 2 beeps on start up, and they both worked with out problems during the race. Our cars were among the fastest on the large open circuit, and very controllable in the infield. Unfortunately our driving skills didn't bring the cars on the podium, but we had no trouble keeping with the Tekins and AE in terms of power.

For the ETS races we use SP v3 13.5 motors. We ran 3/4/8/0 on the SXX, with a 5,4 gear ratio. The motors were comming off the track at 70 - 80 deg celcius, with neutral timing on the motor. You can see the track on ets.redrc.net.

A lot of people had problems with different brands of controllers, and some people burned motors. The new generation of controllers bring the motors closer to their limit, and it is quite easy to burn your motor or ESC. This is part ofbeing so close to the edge, and pushing the equipment to the limit, and applies to all the new controllers or even to all high performance equipment.

Be cautios when changing settings. Have somebody trackside to check the temperatures every 2 minutes, when testing new settings. Changing the gear ratio by small amounts, will usually result in smaller changes in temperature 5 - 10 deg. Be carefull when changing timing settings, small changes may result in big changes in temperature. Don't drive more than 5 minutes, even when practising, when settings are at the edge. If the car looses performance or doesn't go faster, come off the track, don't finish the session as it won't produce a faster time anyway. Check your car between every run, a seized up bearing, will probably burn the motor or ESC. When practising at home, leave a margin for error don't run every pack at the limit.

Best,
Peter Knudsen
