I have 4 of the SMC 4900 single cell batteries and two of the SMC 5200 single cell batteries all purchased from RC-Market. Two of the 4900 batteries puffed but only because I abused them. The other batteries are working just fine after many charge/discharge cycles. Make sure your charging equipment is set up properly.
They had both puffed on the same day after running a heat, not after charging or during a charge. The charger is an iCharge which requires a cell verification before engaging thereby eliminating user error. We run 8 minute qualifiers and 8 minute mains. Both packs were fully charged when placed in the car, both had good voltage when removed after the heats but were puffed.
They probably would have puffed regardless of using the finest and best charger available.
Needless to say that this is all behind us now and I have two new packs to use as a back-up (but I had to make a 3.5 to Deans adapter) to my Reedys.
