I have seen problems with all the ESC's out there. I have had good luck with the losi one. The lastest software update decreased motor temps by 30 deg on an ESC I upgraded the other day. Just keep the brakes turned down on the losi ESC. (20% is the recommended starting point and still a TON of brakes). I think having the brakes too high is killing the speedo's off but they are figuring that out which is why the lower settings in the latest firmware update. I have seen CC, Tekin and LRP all smoke at our track. I will admit the CC is one of the more reliable systems out there.
