Yep, sure way to stuff your engine is to run it in too cold. You want the insides and block to expand close to what the do during normal operation.
If the piston liner etc dont have the temp to expand then the engine works too hard putting too much stress on the rod, and the piston and liner then need to wear more to free up. Then when you finaly bring the engine to race temp, there is too much worn from the moving parts.
